Petrified Cities / Slices

Petrified Cities / Slices stacks many different maps of one city on top of each other to blend them in a way that differences become apparent and fragment the city in spectral colors. The images refer to a geological analysis technique called thin sections where slivers of rock are ground flat until they become translucent. Permeated by polarized light their compounds gleam in different prismatic colors and become distinguishable.
Enlarged on photographic film Petrified Cities / Slices is presented on flat screen monitors that are converted into light boxes by ripping off their matrix and polarization filters.
