Petrified Cities / Rocks

The series Petrified Cities / Rocks uses 3D geometries of Google Earth and layers of Open Street Map to generate 3D models of fossilized cities embedded in rock. Like scientific exhibits they are exposed as detached pieces in front of a white background and remind of alien lifeforms trapped in stone.

Rocks is the antithesis to uncharted territory since around the set-in-stone cartography nothing is left. Seen as maps the images lack both orientation and scale: carriying whole cities the rocks should be of enourmous dimension whereas they appear to be easily overlooked.
