Petrified Cities / Slices

Petrified Cities / Slices blends different maps of a city in a way that the differences between their graphical notations fragment the city. The brightly coloured images refere to a geological technique called thin sections where slivers of rock are ground flat until they become translucent. Permeated by polarized light their compounds gleam in different prismatic colours.

Enlarged on transparent film the Slices are presented on lightboxes which are flatscreen monitors with their polarization filter matrix ripped off.
