Primo Tempore depicts our present life with digital technology by means of a visual vocabulary that was inspired by early medieval book illumination and icons. It mingles Christian iconography with elements of graphical user interfaces. Instead of projecting the world in detail and perspective Primo Tempore translates it into relations between signs and gestures in the non-spatial world of the image plane. The inevitable central perspective of the 3D program that renders these images is deliberately bypassed by flattening figures and objects to enable views from multiple angles at the same time.
Golden background, traditionally used to depict what cannot be seen, namely the light or dimension of god, hints to a parallel space that permeates our reality at any given time or place. The widely spread idealization of information in the early days of computer technology was nourished by christian attitudes to hail immateriality over bodily and physical constraints.
